Our approach
Build with a clear purpose.
Rainier Lab is an independent workspace for maintaining software, connecting useful tools, and writing down what we learn.
Start with the real task
A project should make an existing task easier to complete. We begin by describing the result someone needs, the information available, and the conditions that count as success. This gives implementation and review the same reference point.
Keep the explanation close
Documentation is part of a working system. We keep current operating instructions separate from historical experiments, and record uncertainty instead of filling gaps with guesses. A new maintainer should be able to find the current behavior without reading every old discussion.
Make changes recoverable
We prefer changes that can be tested in isolation and restored when a check fails. Useful evidence includes real requests and observed results, alongside automated tests. The important question is whether the intended task works in the environment where it will be used.
Respect information
Public notes explain general methods and lessons. Private documents, access details, and project data stay in their intended workspaces. This site does not collect account registrations or provide a customer portal.
